Our generation has become one that is always wanting more when what we have is not enough. We seek out all the newest gadgets and toys. We post updates to the newest fads. Our eyes are constantly window shopping even when we don't realize we are even doing it. The struggle to accept what we have and where we are in life is difficult to grasp. Being unable to be content in your life leads to much disparity and pain. We have seen billionaires take their lives because they did not have as much money as they wanted. We have all seen children putting up a fit in a supermarket for that candy they wanted.
Does having all the riches of the world truly bring happiness to you? If tomorrow you won the lottery, would you not play it again because you tasted what greed was like and now you want more. There is nothing wrong in wanting things and having desires. There is however a line, which can be passed in our desires, that leads to our fall as humans. It is that inner battle that is so hard to reckon with. To learn to accept what our lives look like and all that we have is not learned over night.
The way I've always attempted to deal with being content is to remind myself of others in the world who are not privileged like I am. My parents did an amazing job in reminding us that the wealth of this world can never fully suffice the desires of my heart. They taught that to me with love and the older I got, the more I understood it. I had to fully understand what being content meant in its entirety. I saw being content only in the context of wealth and materialistic things. I did not see it in relation to my heart and to my everyday doings.
It fully surrounds you in all that you do. Look at a few examples: a relationship, love, work, friends and family. These are all things that center around being content. When there is an imbalance, it leads to problems, separation or struggle. Sometimes the best way to get back to that place of being content is to just slow down and baby steps. Get back to the basics of life and learn to crawl before you can run.
Take what you have been given and make the best of it. Lead others by example of your own life. Be joyous in all that you have for others do not have but a speck compared to you. Your life can be beautiful when you set it all down and let it go and accept it for what it is. To be breathing and alive is a blessing in disguise. To be healthy and able to do all that we want to do is overlooked so often when we think about thanksgiving. See your life as the greatest gift that can be given to you. Everything else that is added to it is a blessing and it must be given to Him in complete surrender.
Through being content, you will be much happier and your blessings will increase. Your eyes will be cleared and your future will be seen with stronger vision. Set your anxiety aside and take up His cross. He came and laid down His life for you to live a life that is free from worry and anxiety. He gave up a world of riches to give you a life of happiness. We are all different and each have been blessed by Him differently. But no two blessings can be compared by each other because each blessing was crafted carefully by the Maker of all things.
The grass may not be greener on the other side, so be joyous for the grass that you stand on is alive and rich in life.
That is Truth
